Ivala Lodge - Muden

Bike parking - Ivala Lodge style

The weather was perfect and after our advertising campaign (one emailed flier on Friday), the turnout at the whole hog on Sunday morning was more than heartening. Some thirty bikes and riders gathered for the long ride to Muden via Greytown in the crisp “coolth” of the winter morning.  We all left around 8:20am after waiting for Trevor – who didn’t pitch. (It was later established that he was yachting)! Anyway, the ride was just a bit longer than anticipated – especially for Lance. Apparently he went to fill up along the way and then got lost! Breakfast Ride Rule number 2 states that “the rider who comes on a breakfast ride must arrive at the Whole Hog with a full tank of fuel”. Refuelling along the way has lead to many people getting lost, many people waiting for other people and the normal wailing and gnashing of teeth! Lance missed a damn fine breakfast!

Arriving at Ivala was brilliant as usual, with hot coffee on the boil and place to stand around in the sun to thaw out. There were so many of us that the entire dining room was full, as well as the bar and the entrance hall. Best turnout for Ivala ever! Breakfast was really good as usual, and for R50 including a tip – fantastic value! We’ll do this one again soon.

The trip home was undertaken in many different directions. Elize & I went via Mooi River. The ride there was really nice, but it’s a bit of a long cut, but the scenery is worth the ride. Les and Rayner did an off-road jaunt from Ivala to Albert Falls Dam. He tells me that it was a great ride – only hope they plotted the route on the Garmin!

I managed 420 kays for the day – on one tank with the warning light showing 43 km left in the reserve when I got home! Nothing like pushing the envelope! Thanks to everyone for making today’s ride special! Look forward to seeing you on the next one!
